No Mini open: Competition Rules

Welcome to the No Miniature Open, the ultimate test of creativity!

This is a competition where you must sculpt and/or paint something that is strictly not a miniature, but becomes a tabletop-ready game piece by the end of your conversion.

Whether you are carving a goblin out of a cork, sculpting a dragon from green stuff, or building a space tank out of old electronic scrap, this is your time to shine.

1 - What is required

Your final creation must logically function as a game piece or tabletop accessory. It should fit roughly within standard tabletop scales (e.g., 28mm-32mm heroic, or epic scale) and represent an identifiable tabletop element.

2 - What is allowed
  • Raw Sculpting Materials: Green Stuff, Milliput, clay, Fimo, wire armatures, aluminum foil, etc.

  • Natural Materials: Sticks, twigs, stones, bark, dirt, etc.

  • Household Junk & Craft Supplies: Bottle caps, paperclips, plastic packaging, cardboard, beads, springs, old watch parts, electronic scrap, toothpicks, etc.

  • Bases or plinths: You may use blank, standard gaming bases (e.g., plain black MDF, plastic, or wooden bases) to mount your creation, so long as the base itself contains no pre-cast scenic elements.

3 - What is strictly forbidden
  • NO BITS. AT ALL.
This is the core rule of the competition. You cannot use any parts from any miniature. No manufacturer arms, no commercial swords, no pre-cast heads, no shields, no 3d-printed bits, nothing. If someone made it to be part of a miniature, it is completely banned.

    • No 3D-Printed Parts: Neither resin nor FDM 3D-printed parts of any kind are allowed. This is a hands-on, physical crafting competition.

    • No Recasts or Molds of Existing Minis: You cannot press-mold an existing miniature's face or weapon to use on your piece.

Competition Rules

How to enter

Part A: Before Painting
  • You must submit at least 2 clear photos of your fully assembled piece before any primer or paint is applied. This is the most important step! Judges need to clearly see the bare clay, glued sticks, and scrap metal to verify that absolutely zero manufactured bits or 3D-printed parts were used.

    • If your materials are hard to distinguish, feel free to include a short text description of what junk you sourced!

Part B: After Painting
  • You must submit up to 4 clear photos of your final, fully painted piece (Front, Back, Left, Right).

    • Composite images (multiple angles in one picture) are not allowed.

    • Keep digital editing to a minimum. Do not digitally paint, enhance, or alter the model itself. Background removal (solid black/white backdrops) is acceptable.

The No Mini Open consists out of two joined challenges: a building/sculpting challenge (Part A) and a painting challenge (Part B). For you submission(s) to be permitted for entry, you'll need to enter pictures of both Part A and Part B of the process.
